Day 2
Well we’ve woken to fabulous weather 30deg C/90F, and clear blue skies. Neil drove with my cousin today to Sacramento
Ford, which is a vintage car place, lots of cars, car parts, heaven for
him. Everyone here drives MILES AND
MILES to go to places, it’s quite common. If you ask them how far it is, the
answer is in time, not actual miles. And
while in NZ we travel on side roads, but use highway/freeways to get about. No traffic jams today, thankfully. Lots of oleanders all the way down the
centers of the freeway, pinks and whites, really pretty, but the surrounding
landscape is brown dry.
I went off to an OUTLET MALL – fun! All the designer stores that we have heard of
– and yes I did go shopping.
We had a big family late lunch/early dinner at a Louisianna
style restaurant – interesting food – appetisers – fried green tomatoes, fried
pickles, sweet potato fries, fried okra, spied sausages and spare rib tips –
then they give u these ‘biscuits’ – like our scones- but they serve with apple
and cinnamon butter! Gotta watch that
diet. Drinks are served in preserving
jars
I ate spare ribs for the first time – and had to wear a
bib! When the plate arrived I had to ask
how to eat them… culture shock for the kid from down under.
We were at the restaurant at 3pm and it was busy – even more
so when we left. We asked how many
tables – 75! Across the carpark was this
HUGE and I mean HUGE furniture store – beds that looked like were from the
princess and the pea story – and I was taking photos – you’ll see some here. There were themes, a water fountain, an old
vintage truck, a woodland scene, even stuffed bison and bear! Really.
At Sacramento Vintage Ford there were amazing vehicles on
display. Lots of early fords . Car heaven for Neil. Parts bought, and a couple of catalogues)
Back at my cousins now, jet lagged a tad, or maybe shopped
out!
Back with u tomorrow
Jane and Neil
PS – oh yes Neil brought a GPS – so we don’t get lost again!
It’s not that I’m directionally challenged…but
Love the Southern cuisine! I didn't know they served it in California, LOL, so it's good to know we'll have a piece of home if we ever wander that far west. Looks and sounds like you're having a wonderful time!
ReplyDeleteWe are Sarah, the weather is awesome, so warm - about 90deg F. Today we experienced Costco - (kiwis, it's warehouse for grocery and everything!!!!) huge variety - lots of fun, overwhelming - and if you want it it will come in a box LOL

Great that Neil has a GPS I should imagine they are great to find your way in a strange country. Is that pic of the red car, the car you are driving? It's a beauty.
I am so enjoying your posts.
