Cuba, Lebanon and Miami all in 24 hours

Hi everyone,
Today we realized we’ve been to Lebanon, Cuba and Miami all in the space of 24 hours.  These are in fact towns on route 66.  As you know we stayed in Lebanon last night, and yesterday we drove through Cuba – the town with all the murals.  Actually murals are quite a feature on route 66.  Many of the towns have had them done on buildings which have seen better days.  Sadly, many of the towns have seen better days too.  It’s quite sad seeing them this way, and though they are trying, different businesses, museums etc, some are succeeding while many are not.
We decided not to take the slower route66 this a.m. as we drove from Lebanon to Springfield.  We wanted to go to the Bass Pro Shop – and oh, what a sight, this was truly the highlight of our day.  It’s HUGE – and huge actually doesn’t describe it enough.
You walk in the main entrance to a multi storied store with trees/animals, fish – even crocodile.  There are fish tanks, croc tanks , stuff animals.  Oh, I know it sounds a bit naff, but really it was awesome.  They sell everything to do with outdoor sports, boats, fishing paraphernalia, rods, then there’s the hunting area with guns galore, an NRA gun museum opening in soon, there’s a waterfall, huge fish I’ve never even seen  before floating around, turtles!  Apparently it is Missouri’s

The front of the Bass Pro Shop - but really this is a minute part of it

after the photo i turned around and faced the bear - was quite scary

Fish in the aquarium - not sure what they are
biggest tourist attraction.  So cool.  We were there about 2 hours and really my jaw just dropped the entire time.
Joplin was a stop on route 66.  Quite big and green, the main street lovely with hanging baskets.
We had a bit of trouble today finding the route, and one time was trailing another car along a gravel road – but yes this was still 66 – however, it went on for miles and so we decided to spark up Doris the GPS and head to the next town on a more convenient road – we wanted to go to Darryl Starbird’s National Rod and Car Hall of Fame in Monkey Island.  1stly he doesn’t open on Tuesdays!  And then we couldn’t find our way back to route 66.
Missouri had good signage for 66 mostly, Oklahoma needs to improve! We’re also finding it difficult to relocate the signage each a.m. after we go off route for accommodation.
Tomorrow the aim is for somewhere on the other side of Oklahoma City. We’re very aware we have to be in Vegas by 16th

See you tomorrow
Jane and Neil

Gun city! this was only about 1/8th of the store of guns
